Case study audio – Yellowknife Aquatic Centre
The Yellowknife Aquatic Centre, located in the heart of the Northwest Territories, was designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind.
This ambitious project, conceptualized by several architectural firms, including Arcadis, and carried out by the general contractor Clark Builders, was supported by the engineering firm WSP. It required innovative solutions to meet the challenges of the harsh northern climate.
This case study explores in detail this project’s specific technical characteristics, challenges and materials that made this building efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.
Discover, through audio testimonials from three experts, how the SOPREMA Protected Wall Assembly met this energy efficiency challenge.
Three industry experts share their vision of the project with the SOPREMA team.

Andrea Yee
Façade Specialist – WSP
Les Yard
Building Envelope System Development Manager – SOPREMA Canada
« The city had a requirement to achieve a clear field R-value of 32, which meant we needed quite a bit of insulation and also needed to reduce the thermal bridging effects as much as possible to hit the target.
By using SOPREMA's protected assembly, we were able to benefit from the higher RSI of polyiso while also benefiting from the better temperature and dimensional stability of mineral wool.
Because of the low conductivity of the ACS CLIP system, we were also able to minimize the amount of additional insulation needed to offset the thermal bridging effects. » – Andrea Yee

Noel Vilamitjana
Associate | Architecture Manager – Arcadis
Matthew Girling
Sales Director – Alberta – SOPREMA Canada
« The advantage of using the protected assembly was the ability to thin up the wall and still meet our requirements, so it was actually quite impressive. » – Noel Vilamitjana

Devin Hawrelak
Project Manager – Clark Builders
Ryan Asselstine
Technical Sales Manager – Walls – SOPREMA Canada
« We might have saved […] about eight hundred hours just on the installation alone, based on my current forecasting—so big savings there. » – Devin Hawrelak
