Liquid Waterproofing Solutions
Liquid waterproofing systems such as ALSAN TRAFIK (made of two-component polyurethane, PMMA or hybrid resins) offer high-performance protection for underground and multistorey parking garages. These systems can be used in light to heavy traffic areas thanks to their modularity, based on the version chosen, whether BASE, GRIP or HP. They are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions, providing flexibility to accommodate structural movement, excellent resistance to abrasion, and quick installation (drying in approximately eight hours), all without VOCs. Compliant with the requirements of the National Building Code and CSA S413, these solutions are ideal for structural slabs and slabs on grade.
Bituminous Waterproofing Solutions
The bituminous membranes in the TRAFIKROCK line are well-established products, installed on more than 10 million m² in Canada since 2015. Composed of SBS-modified bitumen, these thermofusible membranes are robust, resistant to thermal shock and suitable for studded tires. SOPREMA offers two systems: TRAFIKROCK BASE for multistorey parking garages and TRAFIKROCK HP for parking decks located above habitable spaces. Installation can be mechanical, using the MINI MACADEN, and the systems include primers, base sheet membranes, cap sheet membranes and complementary mastic. These solutions ensure total adhesion to the substrate, even under extreme conditions, while allowing a durable and reliable application.
Water-Repellent Coatings and Sealants
SOPREMA’s dampproofing products, such as ALSAN CIVIL SN 471 and SN 474 silane-based sealants (100% or 40%), form an effective penetrating barrier against water. Approved by the Québec and Alberta ministries of transportation, these sealants also meet the CSA S413 standard for non-structural slabs. They help preserve the water vapour permeability of concrete while protecting the reinforcement from corrosion, particularly that caused by deicing salt. Their application extends the durability of surfaces exposed to contaminants, thereby minimizing long-term structural damage. It is an ideal solution for enhancing the resilience of concrete structures and preserving their appearance.

Solutions Designed for the Protection of Parking Decks
We recommend aliphatic polyurethane membranes, which are resistant to UV rays and temperature fluctuations. Please note that aromatic polyurethane is not suitable. Modified-bitumen sheet membranes are also an option, as they are covered with an asphaltic layer.
There are benefits to both types of membrane. Liquid membranes form a monolithic, seamless barrier that conforms to surfaces, even irregular ones. They can be installed without the use of a flame and are quite thin, i.e. less than half an inch.
Sheet membranes generally appear somewhat more rigid because their thickness is controlled at the production plant and users can actually feel reinforcements to the touch.
However, it should be noted that a heat-welded installation lends a certain degree of fluidity to a sheet membrane, allowing it to adapt to irregular surfaces, and certain liquid membranes also have particularly interesting mechanical properties.
The CSA S413 standard, which is referenced by the National Building Code for the design of parking structures, prescribes maintenance methods for parking decks. The standard states that the senior consultant must provide the project owner with a maintenance manual that includes, among other things, the following elements:
- Annual inspection
- Cleaning.
In particular, water absorption or chloride ion content tests can be carried out to check the decrease in waterproofing effectiveness, as described in CSA S413. To maintain the waterproofing membrane when necessary, targeted corrective work can be carried out, including membrane reinforcement.
