Concrete parking structures, whether underground or outdoor, are continually subjected to factors such as freeze-thaw cycles, moisture, and deicing chemicals. These elements accelerate structural deterioration and compromise durability if proper waterproofing solutions are not applied.
This webinar will delve into the technical challenges of waterproofing concrete parking structures. We will discuss installation techniques, available technologies, and best practices to safeguard these essential infrastructures. By the end of this webinar, you will have the insights and tools needed to select the optimal waterproofing solutions to enhance the longevity of your concrete parking structures.

- MULTIHOUSING
Keval Gandhi, SOPREMA
Business Development Manager - Building Envelope, SOPREMA
Payam Bahman-Nezhad
Building Envelope Sales Representative, SOPREMA
The housing crisis in Canada is heightening the need for efficient housing solutions, including multihousing buildings that help densify cities and curb urban sprawl. If a solid base is essential for these structures, foundation waterproofing is critical to ensure their durability and avoid costly repairs in the long term. However, in urban areas, tight spaces can sometimes make waterproofing work more difficult.
This webinar covers the basic principles of foundation waterproofing for multihousing buildings and examines the specific challenges of blindside waterproofing. Our experts will present the details you need to know, and the mistakes to avoid on the worksite to guarantee the sturdiness and durability of foundations.

How to Ensure the Durability of Concrete Balconies
- BALCONIES AND PLAZA DECKS
- PROTECTION OF CONCRETE
- WATERPROOFING
Patrick Champagne
Architectural Sales Representative, SOPREMA
In multihousing buildings, balconies are important spaces for occupants. They are an extension of their living space, providing additional room for cooking, relaxing and socializing. Using durable materials like concrete ensures long-term peace of mind. However, to ensure the durability of concrete, it is crucial to effectively protect its surface against water infiltration and premature wear. This extends its lifespan and avoids costly renovation work.
This webinar explores the characteristics that differentiate concrete from other materials available on the market for balconies. It also highlights the importance of surface protection and presents the different types of technologies as well as their specific features.

Recovering the Water From Our Roofs: Discover Rainwater Management Solutions
- BLUE ROOF

- STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
- SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION
Alicia Adrovic
Urban Hydrology Engineer, SOPREMA
Roxanne Miller
Business Development Manager – SOPRANATURE®, SOPREMA
Urbanization and climate change have an impact on stormwater management.
Indeed, in urban areas, impermeable surfaces—such as roads, parking lots and buildings—prevent rainwater from infiltrating into the ground, which can lead to flooding and pollution of surface water. Moreover, climate change aggravates these problems by increasing the intensity and frequency of rainfall, which puts more pressure on stormwater management systems.
Municipalities must therefore be able to handle these weather events by integrating stormwater management practices into urban development projects, while at the same time adapting existing structures.
Capable of accommodating different stormwater management solutions, roofs are a key element to consider in order to comply with the regulations put in place by municipalities, in addition to meeting the requirements of sustainable construction.

Environmental Impact of Extruded Polystyrene and Other Insulation Used in Buildings

- ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Presented by Jean-François Côté, PhD
Director, Standards and Scientific Affairs at SOPREMA
Construction materials have an environmental impact that extends throughout their life cycle—from the extraction of the raw materials used to manufacture them to their end of life. Environmental product declarations (EPDs) show the extent of this environmental impact. EPDs publish the results of a life-cycle analysis according to ISO standards. They are validated by independent third parties, thus ensuring their objectivity. By consulting an EPD, it is possible to know, among other things, the impact of a certain material on global warming. Professionals can therefore use this information, in addition to that already available, to guide them in their selection. In this webinar, we review the information published in the brand-new EPD on SOPRA-XPS insulation, in EPDs on other insulation materials, and even a few waterproofing products. Specific EPDs for SOPREMA products as well as generic EPDs will be used to establish trends regarding materials with the lowest environmental impact. This analysis may set the record straight when it comes to some preconceived ideas.

BUILD BETTER: Considerations for Optimizing Walls for Both Current and Future Realities
- WALL ASSEMBLIES
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- ATTACHMENT SYSTEMS
- CARBON EMISSIONS
Patrick Roppel, P.Eng., M.A.Sc
Principal, Building Science Specialist, Evoke Buildings
The government is focusing on increasing energy efficiency for both new and existing buildings to help meet Canada’s commitments to reducing carbon emissions in the next decade and beyond. The steps towards adopting “net-zero energy ready” building codes for new construction in Canada by 2030 are well underway and strategies to retrofit existing buildings are emerging. New policies are not only striving to maximize energy efficiency gains but are also introducing new measures to ensure that overall carbon emission targets for the construction, operation and renewal of buildings are met. The drive to reduce overall carbon emissions is creating the motivation for the building industry to challenge the prevailing approaches to the design and construction of the building envelope and look for opportunities to optimize assemblies for costs and performance. This webinar explores the synergies and opportunities of combining polyisocyanurate and mineral wool insulation with a structurally and thermally efficient cladding attachment system to achieve high thermal performance, reduce material use, decrease costs, and optimize wall thickness.

Capturing Solar Thermal Energy Through the Building Envelope to Improve Energy Efficiency
- THERMAL SOLAR ENERGY
- SOLAR COLLECTORS
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTION
Carl Binette
President of Aéronergie
The solar potential on Earth is unlimited, but still underexploited. Québec is one of the best places in the world to take advantage of solar radiation. The need for heat in winter is significant, and the potential of solar preheating is tremendous. One sunny day could generate self-sufficiency for 27 years. According to HEC’s most recent report État de l’énergie au Québec (Québec’s Energy Status), 52% of the energy consumed is lost in the atmosphere. As we are collectively taking the shift towards green solutions, it is important to plan and build efficiently, intelligently and sustainably, while ensuring the successful architectural integration of our buildings. Solar thermal collectors affixed to the exterior envelope of the building or installed as curtain walls can increase energy efficiency. They thus become allies in the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and energy costs while integrating a green signature which allows us to comply with regulations regarding Architectural Implantation and Integration Plans (AIIPs). By integrating the right technologies to buildings, it is possible to capture up to 80% of solar energy and thus increase the ambient temperature by more than 45 degrees Celsius.
