In an era of climate change, taking this direction is necessary to reduce our reliance on fossil fuel or material sources. The adaptation of buildings and infrastructure to the recurrence and intensification of extreme weather events is now a necessity, not only to maintain the building performance, but also to ensure the health and safety of the people.
Conscious of our role despite the diversity and complexity of the issue, we recognize the importance of improving our practices so that we can contribute to passing on a social, environmental and economic legacy that is mindful of present and future generations.
It is from this perspective of sustainable development that various SOPREMA events have been created, aiming to engage in a discussion on the current challenges related to the performance and sustainability of buildings. On June 5, 2018, the first edition of SOPREMA’s Better Buildings Summit was held at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, and Dr. David Suzuki was the guest of honour. The event brought together architects, building owners, general contractors, policy makers and municipal representatives who are part of the movement to promote integrated design as part of sustainable construction projects.
