SOPREMA Canada Is Committed to a 71% Reduction in GHG Emissions by 2030

Published by Pierre-André Lebeuf

Historically, SOPREMA’s fundamental purpose has always been to contribute to the sustainability of buildings, particularly in terms of their energy efficiency. In line with our expertise as a manufacturer of construction products and our commitment to sustainable development, we aim to redouble our efforts in the fight against climate change.

SOPREMA Canada is proud to announce its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 71% while decreasing their intensity 50% by the year 2030.

Details of Our Methodology

These reduction targets were established in the fall of 2020 based on various evolution scenarios of our GHG emissions as well as on the results of the SOPREMA GHG inventories of the years 2018 and 2019. The achievement of the targets will be determined according to the ratio between the results obtained for the year 2030 and those of the reference year, 2018.

The GHG inventories were carried out by an independent third-party company in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14064-1:2006. The GHG emissions of Scopes 1, 2 and 3 under operational control were considered in these inventories, which include the following elements.

Scope 1 - Direct Emissions

Consumption of building fossil fuels and other equipment such as forklifts, losses associated with the use of certain substances and ingredients in production processes, and consumption of fossil fuels in corporate vehicles used for delivery and product transfers.

Scope 2 - Indirect Energy-Related Emissions

Electricity consumption of buildings.

Scope 3 - Other Indirect Emissions

Employee travel in the course of their work, waste management, and losses associated with the use of certain substances and ingredients in manufactured products.

Note: Other sources of GHG emissions that were not mentioned were not considered in the 2018 and 2019 GHG inventories. However, it is possible that new sources will be accounted for in previous inventories. The GHG emissions linked to the operations and establishments of SOPREMA subsidiaries have not been taken into consideration.
