How Can Construction Professionals Measure and Reduce the Carbon Impact of Their Projects from the Design Stage?
At SOPREMA, we believe it is essential to provide our clients with concrete tools to understand and reduce their environmental impact. True to our commitment to sustainable development, we are taking a new step today with the launch of two major initiatives:
- An online carbon calculator to estimate and compare the environmental impact of products from the design phase;
- The addition of the carbon footprint of products to invoices to ensure total transparency and direct integration into your projects.
These innovations make SOPREMA one of the first players in the industry to offer a clear, quantified and accessible view of the carbon footprint of a project’s construction materials. These initiatives are part of our commitment to supporting construction professionals in designing more sustainable and responsible projects, empowering them to make informed choices at every stage.
How Does the SOPREMA Carbon Calculator Work?
Our online carbon calculator allows you to estimate, right from the design phase, the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the materials used in a project.
It is easy to use:
- Enter the surface area covered.
- Select the relevant SOPREMA product.
- Instantly get the associated carbon footprint, expressed in kilograms of CO₂ equivalent (kg CO₂ eq.).
- Repeat these steps as many times as necessary for different products. Compare the results to choose the solution best suited to your environmental goals.
The calculation is based on available Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that have been validated by an independent third party. The results are expressed in kilograms of CO₂ equivalent (kg CO₂ eq.), the standard carbon footprint measurement unit.
For example, a result of 50 kg CO₂ eq. in Modules A1 to A3 for a given product means that all production stages, from material extraction to manufacturing and transport to the factory, generate the equivalent of 50 kilograms of carbon dioxide. In some cases where the information is available, the carbon footprint of a product can also be determined for its complete life cycle. Comparing two solutions now makes it possible to directly choose the most environmentally friendly option.
An Invoice That Shows the Carbon Footprint
From now on, each invoice issued by SOPREMA will include the following information in addition to the usual order details:
- The carbon footprint (in kg CO₂ eq.) of each of the products for which information is available;
- The overall carbon footprint of your order.

This information will give you a precise idea of the carbon footprint for the production stages of the products you have selected, from cradle to gate. It can be integrated into your own sustainable development reports, helping you track changes in your purchasing history and identify areas for improvement, while providing you with a concrete tool for raising awareness among your clients and partners about the responsible choices you make.
One Step Closer to Sustainable Construction
These new features are part of our global sustainable development approach. The objective remains the same: to equip our partners so that they can design more sustainable projects and, together, help transform the construction industry.
