Innovation and design process

Innovation in design

PROPOSED SOPREMA SOLUTION:

  • SOPRANATURE green roof systems: In addition to the attenuation of outdoor noise in excess of 40 decibels with a substrate that is about 12 centimetres thick, these green roof systems protect and extend the life of membranes. This translates into much less wasted material but primarily and simply less waste being generated to begin with. Moreover, a green roof embellishes the local landscape, increases property values and makes new environmental habitats available for both plants and animals. It is also a most efficient alternative to traditional agriculture, not to mention that this type of roofing provides heat insulation while improving air quality in the vicinity
  • SOPRAROCK DD and SOPRAROCK DD PLUS insulation panels: superior acoustic and thermal performance and fire resistance
  • SOPRAROCK MD and SOPRAROCK MD PLUS support panels: superior acoustic and thermal performance and fire resistance

INTENT:

To provide design teams and projects the opportunity to achieve exceptional performance above the requirements set by this rating system and/or innovative performance in Green Building categories not specifically addressed by this rating system.

REQUIREMENTS
In writing, identify the intent of the proposed innovation credit, the proposed requirement for compliance, the proposed submittals to demonstrate compliance, and the design approach (strategies) that might be used to meet the requirements. One point is awarded for each innovation in compliance with requirements of the credit. A maximum of five credits is available. Note: A maximum of three credits will be awarded for exemplary performance in the Innovation and Design Process category.

POTENTIAL TECHNOLOGIES AND STRATEGIES
Substantially exceed a LEED Canada for New Construction and Major Renovations 2009 or Core and Shell Development 2009 performance credit such as energy performance or water efficiency. Apply strategies or measures that demonstrate a comprehensive approach and quantifiable environment and/or health benefits.
