SS Credit 7.2

Sustainable sites

Urban heat island reduction

PROPOSED SOPREMA SOLUTIONS:

  • SOPRANATURE green roof systems: Applying a SOPRANATURE green roof system over at least 50% of the roof's surface area automatically satisfies the requirements of SS Credit 7.2 for the reduction of heat islands in urban settings.
  • SOPRASTAR HD GR white membrane: If the slope of the roof is greater than 2:12, the minimum solar reflectance index (SRI) required is 29. The SOPRASTAR SRI value of 70 exceeds the steep-sloped requirements of credit SS7.2.
  • SOPRASTAR HD GR white membrane: If the slope of the roof is 2:12 or less, The SRI requirement is 78 when used on 75% of the roof surface. The SRI value of our SOPRASTAR HD GR reflective membrane is 70, which qualifies it for SS Credit 7.2 for reducing heat islands when it is used on a low-sloped roof, provided it covers 96 % of the roof surface.
  • SOPRASTAR FLAM WF white membrane: On any slope, SOPRASTAR FLAM WF membrane, with an SRI index of 96, readily meets the requirements of SS Credit 7.2. This credit can therefore be obtained in any situation where the SOPRASTAR FLAM WF membrane is applied on at least 75% of the roof surface.

INTENT:

Reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.

CALCULATOR: When you combine a variety of SOPREMA roofing products, the calculator is a quick and effective tool you can use to determine whether you are indeed meeting the criteria for this LEED® credit.

E.g. SOPRANATURE green roof (over 50% of the roof) + SOPRASTAR HD GR highly reflective membranes (over 50% of the roof) = YES.

Have the requirements of Sustainable Site Credit 7.2 been met?
NO

This online calculator is made available to SOPREMA website users to assist them in the selection of roofing materials for the LEED® SS 7.2 Credit. In no case does it constitute valid proof by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) that the selected combination meets the requirements of this credit for a specific LEED® Registered Project. LEED® Accredited Professionals are responsible for confirming the choice of materials, for example with the use of official CaGBC tools such as the "Letter Templates".
